How to Choose Cattle for Qurbani

Selecting an animal for Qurbani carries both religious significance and practical responsibility.

How to Choose Cattle for Qurbani

Selecting an animal for Qurbani carries both religious significance and practical responsibility.

Appearance may attract attention first, but buyers should make a calm, informed assessment before committing.

Visit the Animal in Person

Photographs and videos are useful for shortlisting, but they may not reveal movement, temperament, scale or general condition accurately.

During a farm visit, observe whether the animal appears alert, moves soundly and has an appropriate overall condition. Ask questions rather than relying solely on decoration, colour or size.

Ask About Age Information

Age eligibility is an important consideration for Qurbani.

Ask the seller what age information is available and inspect the animal with appropriate guidance. Buyers should satisfy themselves that their selected animal meets the religious requirements they follow.

When uncertain, consult a suitably qualified religious authority.

Understand the Price

Before booking, confirm whether the animal is being sold:

  • According to live weight; or
  • At a fixed per-animal rate.

If live-weight pricing applies, ask about the per-kilogram rate and weighing arrangements. Remember that live weight is not the same as the quantity of meat obtained after slaughter.

Confirm the Reservation Terms

At Shajra Livestock, a selected animal can be held for 24 hours against a non-refundable deposit of PKR 10,000 per animal.

Before paying, confirm the animal’s identity, the total price or pricing basis, and the exact time when the hold expires.

Arrange Transport in Advance

Do not reserve an animal without knowing how it will be collected.

Shajra Livestock operates on a farm-collection-only basis. Buyers arrange and pay for their own livestock transport from Toba Tek Singh.

Avoid Last-Minute Pressure

Seasonal demand can reduce choice and complicate transport. Visiting earlier gives you more time to compare cattle, understand the terms and plan collection responsibly.
