The record behind the animal

Shajra Origin is the provenance system we are building — a record that ties an animal, or a defined group, to the key events of its time on the farm. It is not live yet. What follows is a preview.

See the record, not the slogan

Three sample records are wired up below so you can see the shape of what we intend to publish. They are illustrations, not records of real animals — enter a code or pick one to open it.

How it would work

Four stages, one continuous record

01

Identification

An ear tag or group number applied on arrival, and carried on the register for as long as the animal is with us.

02

Feeding

Ration, sources and adjustment dates logged against each animal or herd group through the finishing period.

03

Health

Vaccinations, preventive care and veterinary treatment recorded, with withdrawal periods observed and filed.

04

Sale

Inspection, the agreed price basis and the collection arrangement, closing the record at the farm gate.

What we already keep

Commitments we can measure

These are the records the farm keeps today, whether or not a buyer ever looks them up. Shajra Origin would publish the parts that belong to the buyer.

The Shajra Standard
CommitmentWhat it means in practice
Animal identificationCattle identified on arrival and carried on the register for the whole of their time on the farm.
Feed recordsFodder, grain and silage inputs logged against each animal or herd group as the ration is adjusted.
No growth promotersNo added growth hormones or anabolic steroids are used to promote weight gain.
Veterinary oversightScheduled vaccinations and treatment recorded, with applicable withdrawal periods observed before sale.
Welfare monitoringHousing, handling and body-condition reviewed through daily observation by the farm team.
Clear purchase termsThe pricing basis, reservation requirement and collection arrangement confirmed before a deposit is taken.
Claim substantiationWe describe only what the record supports. Where a record does not exist, we say so rather than imply one.
Questions

Frequently asked

Is Shajra Origin live?
Not yet. The three records on this page are samples built to show the format. Until the service is operational, contact the farm directly for the information available on a particular animal or batch.
What would a record show?
Animal or group identification, arrival, breed description, the feeding programme, vaccinations and preventive care, veterinary treatment and withdrawal status, and the sale and collection details.
Would everything be public?
No. Records would be public in the fields that matter to a buyer. Commercial terms, employee details and farm-security information stay withheld.
Does a record replace inspecting the animal?
No. A record tells you how an animal was managed; it cannot tell you whether that animal suits your purpose. We ask every buyer to visit and inspect before committing.
What can I get today?
Ask us. We can tell you what health, feeding and management information is on file for the cattle you are considering. Call 0324 3790000 or email info@shajralivestock.com.

Ask what is on file.
